Author/playwright Dr. Lawrence McCullough is our guest this week. Fairfield’s Way Off Broadway, Iowa’s only professional musical theater company, is currently running the production, “Orphan Train”, which is based on the book Lawrence wrote about New York orphans sent to live in Iowa. The musical runs through Aug 12th. Gov. Terry Branstadt has declared Aug 12 as Iowa Orphan Commemoration Day.

An accomplished musician and composer, Dr. McCullough has recorded on 34 albums and performed on film and television soundtracks including Ken Burns’ The West, Lewis and Clark, the film Michael Collins and PBS specials Alone Together, and more.

Hello Monica—I live in Albany NY and I am trying to contact Lawrence McCullough. I spoke with him a couple of years ago, after having seen his Orphan Train musical, and I was so highly impressed, and wanted to be able to assist in possible further promotion of his play, and of the Orphan Train history in general. The email I had had for him appears to be no longer good, and I’m wondering if you have a current email or phone # where he can be reached. There is a local videographer here I have talked to about this, and he would like to try to pursue doing a project with PBS, and the Orphan Train history, esp. featuring the musical on film. Can you assist in locating him? Thanks for any suggestions!
