Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg’s first book, “Surprised by God” told the story of her own spiritual awakening, which led her to study to become a rabbi of the Jewish faith. Then she became a mother. In “Nurture the Wow: Finding Spirituality in the Frustration, Boredom, Tears, Poop, Desperation, Wonder, and Radical Amazement of Parenting,” Ruttenberg shines the light of centuries of spiritual wisdom from a wide variety of traditions on the serious labor of parenting.

She also shares her own parenting journey. Writing about your family can be touchy business, but Ruttenberg points out that most of the personal anecdotes make her look worse than her kids.

It’s not just about raising your kid…this isn’t how to do 5 or 6 things to have a more spiritual child, or a happier child. It’s about how doing this work can transform you and transform your experience of life. You get to have wonder too.

After you’ve worked hard to get what you want, take time to enjoy it!
