IOWA SHORT FILM AND SCRIPT-WRITING CONTEST ENTRIES ACCEPTED NOW
Alert to all Iowa writers. Fairfield, IA celebrates Iowa film-making and script-writing in the 6th Annual Art Walk Film Expo 5-7 February, 2010. Better yet, tell your friends to enter the short film and script-writing contests happening RIGHT NOW.
SCRIPT CONTEST: Entries must be 5 minutes or less and utilize the art of “conversation”. Use standard film script format (search the web for examples). Entries must be inspired by the theme “Towards the light, presence of place”. No entry fee.
The theme is admittedly poetic and that’s the point. You need not include these words in your script. However, entries will be evaluated in part by whether the judges feel your script moves them in the direction of the theme. We have no a priori interpretation of that theme. It’s your personal oomph.
The setting should be a room with your choice of chair(s), couch, table(s), door and window, no more than 4 speaking actors and no more than 4 extras with non-speaking parts.
Your script could also use a “green screen” production method. The director would insert your background during editing. Keep it simple to make it easily doable. Remember you will have a volunteer director, crew and editor. If you have other special requirements, go ahead and ask. Our criteria require that your script stay within the 2-hour production workshop time plus available studio and crew resources.
Send your entries or queries to scriptentry@fairfieldartwalk.org or mail to: Attn. scriptentry@fairfieldartwalk.org c/o 1st Fridays Art Walk PO Box 632 Fairfield Iowa 52556. You’ll receive an entry form and guidelines covering your rights as scriptwriter. Final Deadline is Dec 31, 2009. Scripts will be judged “blind” (without writer’s names). Winners will be announced January 15th 2010.
Two winning scripts will be produced during the Festival. Experienced directors will conduct a two-hour television studio Production Workshop on 6 February, with volunteer actors, crews and an audience. Writer and crew get a free DVD of the production. Anyone interested in acting, directing or working on crew please email productionworkshop@fairfieldartwalk.org.
SHORT FILM CONTEST: Two awards given for each of these short film categories: Drama, Documentary, Animation, Super-short (2 minutes or less), and Youth (17 and under). Entries must be from Iowa folks, 10 minutes or less.
