“Matched” trilogy author, Ally Condie, (novels of young adult science fiction) speaks about the creation of dystopian fiction and the questions that her novels were created to explore.. “At the heart of it is the same question – What happens when we don’t get to choose who we love.”
About the dystopian novel in general ” It’s always felt a bit real and I think that’s why we as readers are drawn to dystopian , but I think it might be feeling just all too real at this point. With young adult novels I think a lot of times we want to give a sense of hope…in the last few years I think it’s been heart breaking,…you are seeing people like, Greta Thunburg and other activists who are actual children, teenager’s stepping forward. and taking the reins where the adults have absolutely failed and I think that is disturbing and inspiring at the same time.”
