We spoke with Brad Fox during his much-longer-than-expected stay at the edge of the Peruvian jungle, where he was stranded due to COVID flight restrictions. But if anyone can adapt to such unusual circumstances, it would be this author – like the characters in his debut novel in English, “To Remain Nameless,” Brad Fox has worked for humanitarian organizations in some of the most troubled areas of the world, from the Balkans to the Middle East. (An earlier novel was published in Serbian and Macedonian.)
In “To Remain Nameless,” two former aid workers spend a long night in a New York hospital labor room, where one is giving birth and the other is there to offer support and friendship. For Brad, this setting gave him an opportunity to integrate all of the issues he is interested in and contain them, as he says, “in one tellable story.”
