Debut novelist Brady Hammes, author of “The Resolutions” has a great day job – as a documentary film editor. One recent project, “Tom vs. Time” about NFL quarterback Tom Brady, won a 2018 Sports Emmy. In our conversation with Brady, he talks about why he wanted to write novels too, what he brings from one career to the other, and what inspired “The Resolutions,” which explores sibling relationships in adulthood.

We also talk about his journey from a youth spent in Iowa (we’re pretty sure he must be related to someone we know), to Hollywood.

With documentary work, the editor really is writing the film in the editing room, taking this mountain of footage and shaping it into a coherent story

Life can take you down many paths, sometimes into trouble. But at the end of the road, sometimes we are blessed to return to family and their love for us. So sometimes you can go home.
