Pam Jenoff is with us again talking about her latest novel – The Woman with the Blue Star – Historical fiction set in Poland during WW2
“I like to tell all the stories and I like the gray areas in people. When I grew up, history was very black and white, in broad brush strokes. And then I went to Poland and I found things much more nuanced and complicated. So you will see, for me it’s all about the individualized response. You know, people; during the war. What makes the step mother collaborate, while a simple sewer worker like Pavel takes it upon himself to help the Jews in the sewer.

One of the really fascinating parts about the war is it brought people together from such different backgrounds who other wise might never have met.

In war nobody wins, of course; And many people suffer on both sides of the conflict. But as in this story, kindness to one another is the light at the end of the black tunnel of suffering.
