Tracy Clark author of – Runner – the fourth in the Chicago Mystery series, talks about the research she did to give her novel authenticity
“Once I knew that Cass ( the main character) had this sort of background in police work I took two police detectives, female, to breakfast. I said. Well, exactly how do you do your job? What are the things you worry about? How do you accomplish the same thing, maybe your male counter parts do, but maybe you have to do it a little differently? They’re not as big not as brawny as the men are, so they have to use their brain and psychology and try to sort of deescalate situations….You have to sort of figure out how to do what everybody else does, in a different way, so it was good to have that information.”
