Lisa Unger looks and sounds like a normal, nice person, who is drawn to the question “What does a normal person do on their worst day?” Or put another way – what evil lurks in the hearts of men (and women?) But as she says, “the person who sits down to write is not the same as the person who makes tuna fish sandwiches.” Of course, if her tuna sandwiches are as suspenseful as her books – I’m not sure I’d want to eat them!
In this conversation we talk a lot about process and perspective, and of course her new book (#18 if you’re counting) – “Confessions on the 7:45.”

(Writing) a novel is like a marriage, while a short story is like a fling.
