Writers Voices talks with Jennifer Jordan and Liza Rodman co-authors of -The Babysitter – My summers with a serial killer. A true crime memoir about Liza’s childhood caretaker, serial killer Tony Costa.
Liza talks about her writing – ” I wrote my first book when I was ten years old…100 pages. After that I wrote two really bad collections of poetry when I was about twenty one. And .. I sort of drifted into the theater…but always writing and always journaling. And always circling back to my childhood, always always.. trying to write around my childhood.”
Jennifer spoke about her own writing roots – ”I’ve always written and I’ve always wanted to write. journalism was my first path and then in the course of the journalism I started writing magazine articles…and through one of those magazine articles I found the subject of my first book… I think a lot of would-be book writers just get overwhelmed by the task. A book with 80 to 100 thousand words!.. But if you cut it down into article lengths. .it’s like ‘ Ohh easy peasy I can do that’.”

To spend the kind of quality time that she and I have, has been just a gift. To work the story together into what is rapidly becoming a best seller, is just of course, magic.

Write what disturbs you, what you fear, what you have not been willing to speak about. Be willing to be split open,
